Pets do pose a risk to farm animals

Foot and Mouth Disease is an extremely serious, highly infectious disease in cloven-hoofed animals, especially cattle, sheep, pig and goats. However, the virus that causes Foot and Mouth disease can be carried by other species such as humans, birds, cats and dogs (as well as wildlife) and this poses a risk to farm animals. So, owners should not let dogs or cats  have access to farm animals or farm land during a Foot and Mouth outbreak..
