You should seek the advice of your veterinarian if your pet is ill as only he or she can correctly advise on the diagnosis and recommend the treatment that is most appropriate for your pet.

Provet has officially launched a telemedicine system for veterinarians in the UK and Europe. The system (called RemoteVet) has been launched this week at the British Small Animal Veterinary Association Congress in Birmingham, England.

Veterinary surgeons in the UK and Europe can now link into a network of specialists and send clinical information including XRays, ultrasound scans, microscope pictures and written clinical records to experts all over the world via the Internet.

This means that if your pet is ill and has a disease that is difficult to diagnose, your veterinarian can get the opinion of a specialist within hours, instead of having to ask you to travel long distances with  your pet. This on-demand help will also be particularly important for veterinarians and clients living in isolated regions, and for patients which are critically ill and which cannot be moved without risking their life.
