SURVEY SUGGESTS THAT 15.7% OF DOGS DIE FROM CANCER IN THE UK

Irish Wolfhounds - have a high risk of developing cancer

A survey of 3126 dogs conducted by Professor A.R. Michell and published in the Veterinary Record (Nov 27th 1999) concluded that, according to owners,  15.7% of dogs die from cancer. The following breeds appear to be prone to cancer :

  • Afghan Hounds
  • Irish Wolfhounds
  • Standard Poodles, and
  • Rottweilers

Whereas, the following breeds appear to have a low risk of dying from cancer :

  • Airedales
  • Beagles
  • Dachshunds
  • Irish Setters
  • Jack Russell Terriers
  • Rough Collies, and
  • Yorkshire Terriers
