Beta-1,3/1,6-glucan may enhance immunity

The chemical Beta-1,3/1,6-glucan is manufactured from bakers yeast, and it has been shown to increase immune protection against infections (bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites) in animals and acts as an adjuvant to increase vaccine potency . This Beta-glucan works by "activating" white blood cells when it binds to specific receptors on the cell surface. Macrophages, granulocytes and natural killer cells increase their secretions - including the release of cytokines which activate antibody-producing white cells, and others that counter the inflammatory process.

It has been  proposed that adding Beta-1,3/1,6-glucan to petfoods might improve :

  • Maternal immunity
  • Vaccine efficiency
  • Performance
  • Immune-suppression due to ageing
  • Disease resistance
