Description
Excessive pigmentation with hairloss without discomfort.


Cause
Probably genetically inherited defect.


Breed Occurrence
This condition is seen in male and female Yorkshire Terriers from 6months- 3 years age.


Signs
Symmetrical alopecia and pigmentation of the nose, pinnae of the ear and sometimes the tail and feet. The areas of skin affected are shiny and smooth.


Complications
None


Diagnosis
Typical presentation. Biopsy reveals epidermal hyperkeratosis and hair follicles and melanosis.


Treatment
No treatment needed. Growth hormone can stimulate temporary regrowth of hair.

Some cases resolve spontaneously.


Prognosis
Good
