Cat and Dog pet food worldwide sales exceeded $24 billion (£15 billion) during 1998

The latest figures confirm that Cat and Dog food is really BIG business, with total sales of prepared pet foods worldwide exceeding $24 billion (over £15 billion) during 1998. 

Over the previous 4 years sales increased by an average of 12.8% (dogs) and 15.5% (cats). Sales in USA accounted for 39.3% of the total and sales in Western Europe accounted for 35.5%.

These figures do not include the cost of snacks, treats, human foods and home-made rations which are also fed to many pets throughout the world.
