The increasing usage of VPIS by veterinary surgeons in the UK shows that the service is providing a valuable and reliable source of information on animal toxicology, and demonstrates the continuing need for a service of this kind.
The use of the specific questionnaire allows complete case data to be documented. Collation of these data already improves the quality of the information provided to the users of the service, as experience of many previously unrecorded types of poisoning grows. Continued surveillance of all animal poisoning incidents
places VPIS in a unique position to alert industry or other interested parties about agents that are causing concern, and to monitor changing trends in animal poisoning and its management.
