EUGONIC FERMENTER TYPE 4
EF-4 is a Gram-negative bacterium, with
cultural properties similar to those of Pasteurella spp.
Part of the normal commensal flora of
the oral cavity of cats and dogs and many other carnivores, possibly including
Isolated from purulent bite wounds, otitis,
sinusitis, focal necrotic pneumonia, and septicaemia in animals and man.
EF-4 has also been associated with fatal
pneumonia in cats, causing sudden death.
Recent transportation or other stresses
may be predisposing factors.
