CANINE BRUCELLOSIS TREATMENT
Treatment is expensive and often unsuccessful,
especially if not instigated early in infection.
Suggested protocols
-
tetracycline (25 mg/kg three times daily
orally) and streptomycin (10 Mg/kg twice daily by intramuscular injection) combined
for 1 week, followed by continuation of tetracycline for a further 3 weeks; or
-
doxycycline (12.5 mg/kg twice daily orally)
for 2 weeks with gentamicin (2 mg/kg subcutaneous or intramuscular injection
twice daily) for 1 week.
The whole treatment may need repeating, particularly
for treatment of localised infections (e.g. in the eye).
