CANINE DISTEMPER
This highly contagious disease of dogs and
other carnivores is still reasonably common despite several decades of vaccination.
Clinical signs may involve the respiratory, alimentary and central nervous systems,
and may vary in severity from very mild to rapidly fatal. In vaccinated or otherwise
partially immune dogs, only the respiratory sign may be seen, making distemper an
important part of differential diagnosis of
kennel cough
.
