- Infectious canine hepatitis (ICH) is caused by canine adenovirus-1 (CAV-1), which is found world-wide and can infect most Canidae, although some species, including the domestic dog, are more sensitive than others.
- Skunks, racoons and some bears can also be infected.
- Antibody has also been found in man and European badgers, but this probably cross-reaction with other adenoviruses.
- Virus is hardy: it can survive several weeks at room temperature.
