Dogs less than 6 months of age are usually the most severely affected. Stress associated with illness or hospitalisation may increase an animal's susceptibility to infection.
- The diarrhoea usually varies from a cowpat-like consistency to watery.
- Blood and mucus may be present.
- Diarrhoea is usually self-limiting but occasionally it may persist for several months.
- Inappetance, occasional vomiting and pyrexia may also be seen.
