No effective specific treatment exists for FIP.

Antivirals (e.g. ribavirin) and immunomodulators (e.g. interferons) inhibit virus production in cell culture but have little or no effect in cats.

Use of antibiotics and corticosteroids may relieve some clinical signs temporarily, but not in the long term.

Some cats recover spontaneously (very rare).

Good nursing, symptomatic treatment and draining of ascitic fluid from cats with wet FIP may alleviate the clinical signs in some cats, sometimes for several months, although these cats may develop dry FIP later.
