Mild, transient enteritis, especially in kittens, can have many causes, but a rising antibody titre to FCoV might incriminate coronaviruses, and electron microscopy of faeces might help detect FECV or other viral causes.
- Acute, wet FIP in which the main sign is ascites is fairly obvious, although lymphocytic cholangitis can produce identical clinical signs, with proteinaceous ascitic fluid.
- Because dry FIP may present as a variety of syndromes, including renal failure, hepatitis or neurological signs, dry FIP is more difficult to diagnose in the live cat.
