CYANOSIS


Description
Cyanosis is a descriptive term used to describe visible mucous membranes such as the tongue or gums in the mouth when they adopt a blueish colouration due to poor oxygenation of blood supply.

Cyanosis suggests the presence of respiratory disease, seizures or severe respiratory depression due to iatrogenic causes e.g. anaesthetic apnoea.
