This information is provided by Provet for educational purposes only.

You should seek the advice of your veterinarian if your pet is ill as only he or she can correctly advise on the diagnosis and recommend the treatment that is most appropriate for your pet.

Description
Plasma cell infiltration of the 3rd eyelid with loss of the normal black pigmentation along the edge of the eyelid is reported to occur in German Shepherd Dogs and other breeds. Plasma cells are involved in inflammatory processes. The cause of this condition is unknown but it is often (though not always) associated with chronic superficial keratitis- also known as pannus.
