Inhibits protein synthesis. Cisplatin has been used in veterinary patients for the treatment of osteosarcoma, soft tissue sarcoma and carcinomas.

Dogs by i.v. infusion 50-100mg/m2 over 15 minutes. Repeat 4-6 times at 3-4 week intervals

Dogs should be fully hydrated and concomitant antiemetic and diuretic therapy are recommended.

Side-effects include nephrotoxicity, vomiting and myelosuppression. The risk of acute renal tubular necrosis is so great with this drug that it should be used with extreme caution in ageing animals, and it is contraindicated if renal impairment is present.

The use of cisplatin is contraindicated in cats.
