Laser surgery Laser surgery

The application of lasers in veterinary surgery is a relatively recent innovation. However they have been successfully used for the treatment of intraocular and other tumours.

The main advantage of laser surgery is the precision of application that is possible using magnification techniques, as this minimises damage to adjacent normal tissues, particularly when access to a tumour is difficult or the adjacent tissues are sensitive and important for normal organ function to remain. The main disadvantage is the relatively high cost.
