5.10.3 Diagnosis

Diagnosis is made on the basis of the characteristic murmur. It is difficult to identify the vessel on 2DE, but turbulence may be detected in the PA using Doppler echocardiography. Catheterisation will show a raised oxygen tension in the PA.

If a murmur typical of a PDA is heard in an animal of more than a few days of age, a search for additional congenital cardiac lesions is warranted.
