2.3 Clinical pathology
A variety of clinical pathological tests are helpful in examination of horses with suspected or proven cardiac disease. In many animals, these tests are helpful because they can reveal abnormalities in other body systems. These abnormalmay indirectly affect cardiac function, or may cause clinical signs which are confused with cardiac disease. Clinical pathological tests which are of particular relevance to heart disease are discussed below. However, for further detail, readers should refer to clinical pathology texts.
