Aortic stenosis is probably the most common congenital heart disease in dogs at present. The breeds most commonly affected are boxers (50% of dogs affected in the UK), Newfoundlands, German shepherd dogs, golden retrievers, English bull terriers and Samoyeds. The condition is uncommon in the cat.
