The Vitamin B complex is a group of water-soluble vitamins that are important, essential dietary constituents for dogs and cats.  (1,2). Very little soluble vitamin B is stored in the body, and so daily intake in food is needed, although some (e.g. Folate) can be synthesised in the gut lumen by bacteria. (4) These vitamins are components of enzymes and co-enzymes and so they are important for many normal biochemical and physiological functions

PRO-VITB Product Presentation

Provet's PRO-VITB vitamin B complex nutritional supplements are presented as crushable, soluble tablets, containing the daily minimum requirements of B complex Vitamins in the correct ratios, with separate formulations for cats and dogs.

These Provet vitamin B complex supplements do not contain phosphorus

Minimum Requirement:

For a 4kg cat the minimum requirements are (2):  

Thiamin  320 micrograms
Riboflavin  256 micrograms
Pantothenic acid 320 micrograms
Niacin  2560 micrograms
Pyridoxine 256 micrograms
Folic acid 51.2 micrograms
Biotin     4.48 micrograms
Vitamin B12  1.28 micrograms


Minimum requirement:

For dogs the minimum requirements per 10kg body weight are (1)

Thiamine   200 micrograms
Riboflavin  500 micrograms
Pantothenic acid 2000 micrograms
Niacin 2250 micrograms
Pyridoxine 220 micrograms
Folic acid  40 micrograms
Biotin    22.5 micrograms
Vitamin B12 5 micrograms


Feeding recommendations for PRO-VITB

Cats : One tablet per 4 kg body weight per day

Dogs : One tablet per 10 kg body weight per day

Soluble B vitamins are relatively safe and non-toxic when administered by the oral route to cats and dogs and excess intake is eliminated mainly via the urine:

Niacin Toxicity - in dogs 2g/day (133-145mg/kg body weight) of nicotinic acid produced bloody faeces, convulsions and death

Pyridoxine Toxicity at doses well in excess of 1g per kg body weight per day. Signs include ataxia, loss of balance, muscle weakness (similar to signs of deficiency)
